On completion of the course, students will gain an understanding of the principles practices and evolution of Palliative Care. You will learn about pain management and how to address symptoms.
We will cover the different types of support and the different complementary therapies included in palliative care. You will learn about advanced care planning and the importance of cultural sensitivity.
You will learn about the importance of communication and addressing the challenges of grief and bereavement faced by families and the caregivers of the patient.
We will cover the various aspects of palliative care, including symptom management, communication strategies, Advocacy and policy development, ethical considerations and future trends.
We will cover the ethical issues of palliative care, the legal frameworks and regulations that are applicable to palliative care. You will learn about research and innovations shaping the future of palliative care as well as the different palliative care settings available.
In order to complete the course, you must achieve 80% or more in the final multiple choice quiz.
You will earn 3 CPD points on completion of the course, this course will take around 3 hours to complete and the certificate will last for two years.
Units covered
- Unit 1 - Introduction to Palliative care - In the first unit we will cover what palliative care is and how it has evolved. You will learn about the goals and principles of palliative care and what is meant by a patient centered approach. You will also explore the significance of interdisciplinary collaboration.
- Unit 2 - Symptom Management and Comfort care - In this unit we will explore what pain management is and how to address symptoms. You will learn about the different emotional and psychological support in palliative care. You will explore the different types of complementary therapies that utilised in palliative care and how to integrate spiritual and existential care.
- Unit 3 - Communication and Family Support - In the third unit you will learn about the significance of effective communication, advanced care planning and how to build resilience and self care for caregivers.
- Unit 4 - Ethical Considerations and Future Trends - In the final unit you will explore the ethical issues of palliative care, the legal frameworks and regulations applicable to palliative care. We will cover advocacy and policy development and the different palliative care settings available.
