Graduate Scheme

A fantastic opportunity for a motivated individual to join our graduate scheme from September 2024. Each of the six-month placements is extremely varied, examples are in Finance, Operations, Business Development and Marketing. You will be empowered to make business critical decisions from Day One.

Future Prospects

Upon completing the scheme you will have:

- A detailed understanding of business finance (Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet, Cashflow, Reserves, Foreign Exchange, Banking)

- International business experience (EU, North America and Emerging Markets)

- Operations exposure - the ability to work fast and decisively under pressure

- Created and implemented a Business Development plan

- Expertise in all aspects of commodity markets (spot prices, forward markets, price spreads, derivatives)

You will have identified your business interests and skills throughout the placements, and will have clarity about your future career path with Portland.

Set up in 2009 Portland began as a specialised fuel hedging provider; fifteen years on we offer a wide range of services covering every aspect of the downstream fuel sector. Portland frequently appears on mainstream media platforms to discuss commodity markets and energy developments. Based in the City of York, our international business employs 35 people, most of whom are under the age of 30. Our professional environment is lively and fast-paced making this a dynamic place to build a career.
