Achieving for Children is dedicated to ensuring that every child has the opportunity to achieve their full potential. Our Referral and Assessment Team, part of Children's Social Care's Identification and Assessment division, works directly with children and families, focusing on initial involvement through new referrals, child in need, child protection, and initial court proceedings. Our aim is to support families in their time of crisis to prevent the escalation of concerns.

As a Social Worker within the Referral and Assessment Team, you will bring proven experience and skills in working with children and families. You will be based in the Twickenham Office with 3 days in the office or int he community per week.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Initial Involvement: Handle new referrals, conduct child in need assessments, and manage initial court proceedings.
  • Protective Investigations: Undertake child protective investigations, safety, and contingency planning.
  • Court Work: Manage pre-proceedings work, including report writing, statements, and care planning.
  • Direct Work with Children: Engage in child-focused direct work, demonstrating creativity and purposefulness throughout the statutory services journey, including when children become 'looked after'.
  • Complex Meetings: Chair complex meetings with confidence.
  • Team Collaboration: Work effectively within a team environment, supporting colleagues and sharing good practice related to interventions.
  • Agile Working: Utilise digital technology to work in an agile way and engage effectively with children and young people.

About You:

We are looking for a Social Worker who is:

  • Qualified: You will hold a Social Work Qualification, a valid SWE registration and will have completed your ASYE
  • Experienced: Extensive experience in working with children and families, especially in crisis situations.
  • Skilled: Proficient in child protective investigations, safety planning, court work, and direct child engagement.
  • Confident: Able to chair complex meetings and manage pre-proceedings with authority.
  • Collaborative: Works well within a team, sharing knowledge and best practices.
  • Flexible: Comfortable with agile working and utilising digital technology.
